The Book of Eight Sages
Xiyang is an itinerant clerk and follower of the philosophies of the Way and Siddartta. He was born and raised in a small village of the Western Empire, but has spent most of his adult life in the Southern Empire. As a child he showed an apptitude for learning, and was thus sent by his lord to be taught in the university. Upon graduating, he first served his lord faithfully for some five years when the Western Empress proved unfaithful and had his lord executed for treason. Fearing for his own life, he fled to the Southern Empire. There he has mostly hired out his services writing contracts and legal documents on a case by case basis. Before receiving the commission of the Coral Empress, he had traveled extensively outside the Middle Kingdom, especially in Tsaanpwair. As a side business, he sold copies of accounts his adventures, and it was one of these that brought him to the attention of the Coral Empress. Since taking Her commission, he has continued to wander the Middle Kingdom. He was long accompanied by the Lady Luo Feng, who placed him into the center of a scandal when she stole away from the court of the Coral Empress to join him. After her untimely death, he traveled north beyond the reach of the Coral Empress where he lived out his life amongst the northern barbarians.
